The network of European Routes of Charles V was created in 2007 with the aim of supporting and promoting the tourist, historical, cultural, and economic resources of the Routes of Charles V. In May 2015, the European Routes of Emperor Charles V were awarded the label of Cultural Route of the Council of Europe..

The Cooperation Network of the European Routes of Emperor Charles V is carrying out an extensive task of setting up a cultural and tourist programme about Charles V. As of today, it brings together more than 60 cities and historical sites from more than a dozen countries, focusing on the routes travelled by Charles of Habsburg between 1517 and 1557.
